1971年的迪拜
迪拜的早期历史
公元前 3000 年：可以说是迪拜史的开端。考古发现指出迪拜一带最早在铜器时代已经有人居住。
公元 5 – 7 世纪：朱美拉（Jumeira）是贸易路线上的商队站，连接阿曼和现在的伊拉克。人民主要依靠捕鱼、造船及採珍珠为生。
16 世纪：葡萄牙对迪拜一带的贸易路线感到兴趣，迪拜开始受到欧洲的影响。
18 – 20 世纪的迪拜历史
1793 年：巴尼亚斯（Bani Yas）部落夺得政权，植根于阿布扎比，迪拜后来变成其附属国。在这个时期，迪拜受到众多的部落战争困扰。
1820 年：英国首次与本地统治者调解，为往后不少海事休战开创首例，这使附近的地区有休战海岸之称。

1833 年：巴尼亚斯部落的马克图姆本布蒂（Maktoum Bin Butti） 定局于迪拜河湾的辛大哈半岛（Shindagha Peninsula），宣布脱离阿布扎比。他的皇朝至今仍然统治迪拜。
1870 年代：迪拜成为海湾的主要港口，採珠业是迪拜繁华的主要支柱。
1902 年：伊朗伦格（Lingeh）港口征收重税之后，不少伊朗商家与阿拉伯人迁到迪拜，自此之后，迪拜的贸易起飞。
20 世纪早期的迪拜历史
海外及本地贸易昌盛，迪拜堪称阿拉伯最大的露天市集。
1950 年代：停战诸国（Trucial States）发现石油。
1960 年代：迪拜的印度及巴基斯坦人口增长，为纺织品市场带来新景象，并增加了与印度次大陆的贸易往来。
迪拜的现代历史
1966 年：迪拜史上的一个里程碑，迪拜的法塔赫油田（Fateh Oil field）发现石油。
1971 年：为了共同的安全与繁荣，阿拉伯联合酋长国成立，并加入阿拉伯联盟。迪拜国际机场投入服务。
1979 年：阿里港（Jebel Ali port）开始运作。迪拜世贸中心开幕，是迪拜第一座摩天大楼，为其他具野心的建筑项目揭开序幕。
1985 年：阿联酋航空投入服务。阿里自由区成立，吸引大量海外投资。
1996 年：迪拜世界杯首次举行。推出迪拜购物节。
1999 年：帆船酒店 Burj Al-Arab 开幕，是全球唯一一家七星级酒店。
2002 年：Sheikh Mohammed 推出互联网与媒体城市，提供可让海外人士私人拥有的项目，为「新迪拜」立下基础。
2003 年：展开具野心的项目工程，包括世界最高的建筑物和 200 个人造岛。
2006 年：Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al-Maktoum 成为迪拜的统治者及阿拉伯联合酋长国的副总统。
